WIDA 2022 People and Culture Category Entries Closing Soon

With only one week left before registration closes for ADMWomen in Defense Award (WIDA) 2022, ADM looks back at the winners of our 2021 awards in nine categories.

The People and Culture category recognizes the most outstanding female individual in the defense community who has developed and/or administered initiatives to support women in the defense community.

The 2021 winners were ADF Squadron Leader Shamsa Lea and Major Lyndsay Freeman.

Squadron Leader Shamsa Lea and Major Lyndsay Freeman are co-founders of the Propel Her – Defense Women’s Leadership Series. SQNLDR Lea is currently a Logistics Specialization Capability Advisor at Air Force Headquarters. MAJ Freeman is currently a Senior Gender, Peace and Security Instructor at the Peace Operations Training Center.

Through #PropelHerAUS, SQNLDR Lea and MAJ Freeman empowered women to shape their careers and enhance their professional development by creating an accessible, inclusive and diverse community for respectful speech. Their advocacy for women in Defense has directly improved women’s participation in military blogs. They provide a reputable, intersectional, and supportive platform for “guest authors” of all genders, ranks, and roles to share their knowledge and insights on career, life, and personal development topics for women.

Other finalists in the WIDA 2021 People and Culture category were: Beck Rayner from Military Wife Life, Amelia De Angelis from Kinexus, Corporal Natalie Ekonomopoulos from Royal Australian Air Force and Dr Rebecca Jackson from Providence Consulting.

Registrations for the 2022 WIDA Awards close on Tuesday, May 17. Submit your application here or contact Associate Editor Kylie Leonard for more information.
