WATCH: Fans ‘lose words’ as player pauses on law technicality

Fans online were “at a loss for words” about something they had “never seen before”.

The start of the Zebre clash against the Scarlets last Saturday was a bit bizarre. From the kick-off, as the commentators said, referee Jaco Peyper set a marker for the remainder of the game.

The Scarlets emerged 41-24 winners at Parma last Saturday in the URC clash, while Zebre remain bottom of the overall table and are yet to win a game this season. Zebre played 12 and lost 12 and recorded only 2 leaderboard points, coming from a try bonus point and a loser bonus point.

The very first kick off of the match produced a bizarre incident that many fans had never seen before. Zebre full-back Carlo Canna prepared to kick off the match as referee Jaco Peyper ensured, as usual, that both teams were ready. Once Peyper whistled, Canna kicked the ball long. However, the ball didn’t even have a chance to land before referee Peyper whistled. The referee brought the game back for a Scarlets scrummed as Canna kicked off from inside the Scarlets half. Commentators said he was ‘a good two yards from Scarlets territory’.

Many fans approved of the ref’s decision to blow it up and said “it’s time for the ref to start blowing it up.” It’s definitely something you don’t see every day!
