Township of Severn passes new noise by-law

Severn Township has seen an increase in short-term rental properties within the municipality. This led to a greater volume of
resident complaints about issues such as excessive noise, open fires, parking, property standards, litter and fireworks.

In meetings with Council, the creation of a noise bylaw was identified as a priority to help address these concerns. Township staff conducted a review of external bylaws to determine the best approach and options for enforcement in Severn. On March 2, council passed a noise by-law that applies to all land and everyone in the township.

The noise bylaw is available on the townships website at severn.ca/bylaws and regulates certain noise in the township, including:

• No Firearm or Rifle Discharges (not applicable to Crown land):
o Monday to Thursday from 9:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. the next day

o Friday to Sunday from 9:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m. the next day
