The first National Law University in Tripura is expected to start from March to April 2023 | Agartala News

Agartala: As announced in the budget, the government of Tripura is ready to start National University of Law (NLU) from the next session (March/April 2023) temporarily at the Judicial Academy of Khejour Bagan of Agartalaofficial sources reported here on Sunday.
A base amount of Rs 21 has been allocated for the establishment of the National Law University in the current fiscal budget with the commitment of immediate commencement of postgraduate courses under the NLU scheme.
As a result, the state government has identified land in Narsingarh near the airport for a permanent university building.
Cabinet at a meeting last week approved 9.23 acres of land for the permanent construction of Narsingarh National Law University and the government exempted the concerned authority from paying the land premium.
The government formed a search committee with a panel of three members for the selection of the vice-chancellor of this university where a total of 10 applications were received.
The Chief Justice of the High Court of Tripura will become the Chancellor by virtue of office. The process of appointing the clerk, heads of different departments, finance officer and other administrative positions has begun.
In March, National University of Law, Tripura Bill2022 was passed in the Legislative Assembly of Tripura.
The government has decided to spend Rs 50 crore for five years and an amount of Rs 21 crore for basic infrastructure. After five years, the university must become autonomous.
