New user-friendly Vancouver zoning and planning bylaw

VANCOUVER will soon have an updated and more user-friendly zoning and development bylaw, thanks to approved amendments that will make the information in the bylaw easier to find and use.

Simplified and more consistent regulations will make regulations easier to understand and applied more consistently, which will help streamline permit reviews, the City of Vancouver said Thursday.

Scheduled to be released in mid-November, the updated regulations include tables, diagrams, reorganized sections, hyperlinks and accessibility features, replacing the existing primarily text-based format.

The City will be hosting online training workshops in the fall. Current or potential users of the Vancouver Zoning and Planning Bylaw are encouraged to register and can sign up to receive notifications here: vancouver.ca/regredesign.

THE The City’s Rules Overhaul Project was launched in 2018 to undertake a comprehensive review of the City’s land use rules with the goal of making them easier to find and understand. The objectives of this program are to simplify, clarify and improve the consistency of the City’s land use regulations and related land use documents.

The project focused on three key workstreams to achieve the project objectives: modernizing the structure and format of the zoning bylaw; simplify land use regulations; and improving access to land use documents and information.

In addition to updating the structure and format of the Zoning and Development By-law, the City worked to simplify and clarify the zoning by-laws, which included changes to building height, introduction of definitions for porches, terraces and similar elements, improvement of regulatory consistency, clarification of powers and consolidation of administrative regulations. These are incremental changes to more simplified zoning regulations and more streamlined permit processing.

In order to improve access to land use documents and zoning information, the City has also created the Zoning and Land Use Document Library and one digital zoning plan. The Zoning and Land Use Document Library is a comprehensive inventory of land use documents, including zoning and planning regulations, as well as other land use regulations and policy documents. land use.

The Digital Zoning Map is a convenient consolidated version of the Zoning and Planning Bylaw Zoning District Plan, providing an easy way to find a parcel’s zoning designation with a direct link to the specific district schedule or CD-1 by- right.
