Land management in Vietnam still has problems that prevent land from fully becoming a source of energy for socio-economic development, Party Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong said on Wednesday.

At the opening of the Fifth Plenum of the 13th Party Central Committee in Hanoi, Trong said that land is a precious resource of a nation that belongs to all people. There are those who get rich from the land, but there are also those who get poorer because of it, he added.

He asked officials and authorities to find out why land as a resource has not been fully utilized to become an energy source for socio-economic development, why some land is still being used in a wasteful way, why Corruption regarding land still exists and why the real estate market remains “unstable and risky”.

There should be discussions about land, such as policies and initiatives to plan and use land, rent land, distribute land compensation and develop the real estate market, among other topics.

The Fifth Plenum of the 13th Party Central Committee is expected to last for seven days, during which delegates will discuss land policies and law, agriculture and rural development, the development of a collective economy, and work to combat poverty. corruption, among others.
