Curlies Restaurant’s conflict with the law is not new to Goa

The Goa Police Special Investigation Team (SIT), investigating large-scale fraud in land deals, has accelerated action against the accused with a further arrest, this time of a politician.

Sandeep Vazarkar, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader who unsuccessfully contested Porvorim’s seat in the 2022 Assembly polls, is accused of falsifying documents for a property in Sangolda and having cheated out some Rs 27 lakh through a sales deal.

Vazarkar, who was arrested on Friday morning by the SIT, was later released on bail for a personal bail of Rs 50,000 and two bails of Rs 25,000 each.

SIT SP Nidhin Valsan informed the media that Vazarkar dishonestly instigated Purshottam Agarwal to buy land property in Sangolda’s investigation number 21/31 and fraudulently carried out the documentary and monetary transactions for the sale between November 10, 2018 and August 31, 2021.

Vazarkar also transferred the legal rights to the property in the name of the plaintiff and his wife Laxmi through the contract of sale. The victims paid Rs 27 lakh through various deals to the politician. Upon realizing they had been cheated, the victims filed a complaint with the Goa Police which was eventually transferred to the SIT.

The SIT claimed the accused was involved in similar property offences.
