Bureau of Land Management seeks public comment on proposed transmission line to connect Arida and Mohave substations near Laughlin

LA VEGAS – The Las Vegas Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Field Office seeks comments on a right-of-way application submitted by 326FW 8me LLC (a subsidiary of 8minute Solar Energy) to construct and operate a transmission line connecting the new Arida substation and the existing Mohave substation near Laughlin. The comment period will end on March 31, 2022.

“We look forward to receiving public comments on the proposed Arida-Mohave transmission line,” said Shonna Dooman, BLM Las Vegas field office manager.

The proposed 8.8 mile 500 kV transmission line would cross approximately 6.7 miles of public lands managed by BLM, approximately 0.5 miles of lands managed by the Bureau of Reclamation and 1.6 miles of Clark County and private land. The unsigned draft environmental assessment and the unsigned conclusion of no significant impact analyzing the environmental effects of the construction and operation of the transmission line were released today for portions of the proposed transmission line on BLM and Bureau of Reclamation managed lands only.

The proposed transmission line would supply renewable energy from the future Arida Solar Project located on land owned by Clark County and would parallel portions of the existing 500kV Lugo-Mohave line with the regional power grid through its interconnection with the Mohave substation on private land operated by Southern California Edison near Laughlin.

The workforce of the Arida–Mohave transmission line could be 36 workers and 10 pieces of equipment at any time during construction activities. The duration of the right-of-way would be 50 years.
