ELY, Nevada – The Ely District Bureau of Land Management is accepting applications for temporary seasonal firefighters. The application period opens on December 13, 2021 and ends on January 4, 2022.

The duration of the engagement varies according to the needs and the financing of the agency, but cannot exceed 180 days, excluding overtime and training. The normal length of employment is from May to mid-September. Salaries range from $ 13.45 to $ 16.90 an hour, depending on experience.
Applicants must be US citizens. They must also be 18 years of age at the time of employment and be in possession of a valid driver’s license. Those selected must undergo a physical examination and drug testing before being hired and are subject to random drug testing during their period of service. Those in firefighting positions must also pass a “backpack test” upon entering service, which involves traveling three miles on level ground in 45 minutes or less while carrying a backpack. 45 lbs.
The district will host an application and resume workshop starting at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, December 8, for those seeking entry-level wildfire-related positions. The session will be held via Zoom and topics will include USAJOBS access and navigation, CV tips, and current and upcoming vacancies in the region.
