“Aiming to make Hyderabad a category 1 city with canopy density”

Medak: Special Chief Secretary (Forest) A Shantha Kumari said they aim to make Hyderabad the number one city in canopy density by planting two crore saplings in forest blocks spread over 1.60 lakh acres in and around town this year. “The planting campaign was launched in 2021 and the target for getting the canopy density label in a city is September,” she said.

Speaking to officials during her visit to Wadiyaram Village Urban Park in Chegunta Mandal on Wednesday, Shantha Kumari said they also plan to plant 4.42 lakh of plants on 528 hectares of land in the forest blocks of Wadiyaram. , Polampally and Chandampet at Chegunta Mandal. Besides Wadiyaram Urban Park, she said that they are also developing urban parks in Parikibanda and Manoharabad in Medak District, which can become the best recreation place for citizens.

Shanta Kumari said the parks will help maintain ecological balance after rapid urbanization. She toured Wadiyaram Park to see the progress of the plantation and the development of the park. She also visited a control dam built in the forest block. To mark his visit, the senior IAS officer planted a sapling in the urban park.
